Use bicarbonate of soda (or baking powder) and essential oils to clean a bin

In the green, eco-friendly house there are much better and cheaper ways to clean rubbish bins than using bleach. To make your bin fresh you will need:

• Bicarbonate of soda (baking powder or baking soda)
• Essential oil of your choice such as eucalyptus or tea tree oil
• Hot water

Sprinkle a spoonful of bicarbonate of soda into the bottom of the bin, add a couple of drops of essential oil and hot water. Swish the liquid around, use a cloth or brush to remove any stubborn dirt and then rinse.
